School Five News

8th Grade Parents/Guardians - Save the date for "Moving Up Ceremony" (Graduation) - scheduled for Monday, June 23, 2014 at Grinton I Will Library, 1500 Central Park Ave., Yonkers (at Central Park Ave & Tuckahoe Rd.) promptly at 10:15.  Please watch for information from teachers regarding gowns, etc.

Grades 5 thru 8 -- the end of the year trip is being planned for Wednesday, May 28th - this year the destination is to Albany/Howe Caverns.  Please watch for information and permission slips.  The cost of the trip will be on each teachers letter.  The students have been doing different fund raising to help reduce the costs of each students trip. 

LOST & FOUND - Is your child missing a coat, lunch box or any clothing -- please have your child look in the Lost & Found located under the benches in the hall outside the Main Office.  Some classrooms also have their own Lost & Found located in the coatrooms.

Mr. Leben will be taking 30 of our 8th Graders to the Hudson River Museum on Friday, April 25.  These students will be involved in the STEM Scientific writing project.  Please watch for permission slip and further information.

Mrs. Ennis & Mr. DiFate's 2nd Gr. classes will have the visiting Dino Rock (Dino Dig).  This is a traveling dino dig - the students will dig for dino bones and see actual bones found in other dino digs.  This will be done outside in our driveway weather permitting.  Please watch for information & permission slips from the teachers.  Also please ask your child how they enjoyed this experience.

Mrs. Ennis & Mr. DiFate's 2nd Grade classes - will have a presentation from Star Lab on Friday, May 2.  This will be a in school lesson which will be set up in our GYM.  Please ask your child what the saw and learned during this exhibit.  Please watch for more information from your child's teacher.

Mrs. Ennis & Mr. DiFate's 2nd grade classes will be going to the NYC Botantical Gardens on Friday, June 2nd.  This will be an all day trip - please watch for information & permission slip.  Please ask your child what they learned on this trip.

Mrs. Fata, Martinez & Grotto's 1st Grade will be "Cruising around Manhattan on the Circle Line" on Wednesday, June 4, 2014.  Please watch for permission slips and further information from the teachers.  Please also ask your child what they saw on this trip.

Mrs. Fata, Mrs. Martinez & Mrs. Grotto's classes will be going to the Central Park Zoo on Tuesday, April 29, 2014.  Please watch permission slip and further information.  Please also ask your child what they saw and learned on this trip.

Mrs. Rimali & Mr. Tobacco's 3rd grade classes will be going to Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville on Thursday, April 24th for the finale  of their classroom projects.  During the school year representatives from Jacob Burns have come into the classroom to work on projects which give the students a look into how movies/cartoons are made.  Please watch for permission slips and further information.

Reminder - Every Friday is school spirit day - students may wear their "School 5 T-shirts/Sweatshirt" or wear our school colors which are Red & White.

The 3 Kindergarten & Mrs. Fata, Ms Grotto & Mrs. Martinez's classes are planning a trip to see Princess & Pirates at the Theater in Madison Square Garden on Monday, April 21st.  Please watch for further information and the permission slip from your child's teacher.  Please ask your child how they enjoyed this live performance.

We have been invited to participate in the SMILES DENTAL PROGRAM which will start on Thursday, April 24th.  Please watch for information flyer and permission slips.
